Andy Carmicheal in his front room! |
Andy Carmichael (pictured right) came up trumps for the second successive game with a one shot victory in a close fought day at Fleetwood's Links course. Had the wind have blown players would of been faced with a very different beast. However we were greeted with sunshine and very little wind which remained for the duration of the 18 holes. Things could of been very different..... Trevor Griffiths and Ian Pugh were close behind but failed to capitalise on the course's tricky par 3's. Both Ian and Trev could only manage 5 points and that proved to be the difference with Andy scoring 10 points on the same four holes. This is Andy's second win in as many games ensuring him pole position in the race for a top four spot. The most bizarre round of the day came from Stevie birrell.. Having gone out of bounds no fewer than 5 times in the opening 9 holes Stevie managed just 7 points on a desperate front nine. This would be enough to put most golfers off... NOT Birrell his back nine started with 2 pars and 4 birdies clocking up 16 points in total in just 6 holes. He went on to finish with an admiral 27 points and also took longest drive along the way. Nearest the pin was easily one of the shots of the day, with Gary Bennett putting the ball within five feet and tapping in to claim the two's comp.
