Nino's make in four in a row!!

Day one, Santa Clara, Doubles.
Having boarded the coach the teams focused there minds on Santa Clara and day one of the doubles competition. Gary started of proceedings with a typically insulting yet funny team talk. In true Brian Clough style Gary Predicted a whitewash 10-0 points lead and heckled each individual Nino along the way. Trevor on the other hand took a back seat and kept his cards close to his chest remaining quietly confident.

At the end of day one, the reality of it all was a 7-3 points lead in favour of Gary's Hombres side with only James & Leigh (pictured above) taking maximum points for the Nino's.

Day Two, Flamingos, Doubles

With Day one going in favour of the Hombres Trevor Had to make amends and avoid falling further behind. Having only picked up 3 points out of a possible 10 on day one, it was down to Trevor to Mastermind a minor comeback for his Nino's team.

With 36 holes completed the Nino's (pictured above) had bridged the gap to 2 points with a 6-4 overall win on the day.

With scores finishing at 11-9 the teams would take a days rest before resuming on Thursday to compete in the singles.

Day 3, Torrequebrada, Singles.

The opening day of the singles saw Gary pick the pairings for the days play. Surprise picks were rife, with the likes of Peter Preston Vs Stevie Birrell and Andy Bell Vs Mally Regan. But Gary stuck with his gut feeling and his Hombres team (Pictured above) once again delivered the goods, opening up a 6 point lead on the Nino's team.

This left Bennett needing only 6 points on the final day to secure victory.

Day 4, Torrequebrada, Singles.

With just 18 holes left to play it seemed almost set in stone that the Hombres team would claim their first title in four years.

With 10 matches to play and 20 points up for grabs , an injured Liam meant they required just 6 more points to be crowned champions for a third time.

However, a spirited Nino's team needed 14 points and would not give up without a fight. "And fight they did".

In the days first pairings mally retired injured on the first hole whilst Ian came back from 5 down to beat frank 2 and 1.

With James, Leigh, David and Stevie Birrell all coming up trumps, it meant two more points would be enough to secure an unexpected victory for the Nino's team. Steve Bristow had already beaten Colin, yet all was not lost.

Andy bell stood on the 15th green with four feet seperating himself from the N&H trophy.

No sooner had the ball left his putter Andy was reaching to shake Peters hand.

As word got back to the Captains (who would go on to halve the last match of the day). Gary Bennett handed in his resignation (pictured right) and left the course with two unopened warm bottles of champagne in his bag!

The final score finished 32-29. Trevor and his lads had against all odds pulled of a memorable victory on the Spanish coast.

Individual glory
Although each player gave his all for his said team, David Bristow (pictured right)deserves to be singled out for individual praise. Not only did he score 73 points in his final two rounds and gain 6 points for the Nino's team, he also went on to break the overall stableford record with 132 points. A staggering average of 33 points a round!
