Old School Burton scrapes through in the sunshine

The fourth fixture of the year took place at Heaton park today and it turned out to be the closest yet. After 18 holes nothing could separate Paul "old school" Burton (pictured left) and Leigh Robertson with 36 points each, so the day would be decided on a card count back. Paul and Leigh both shot identical front and back nines, so the playoff went to the last 3 holes, which Paul won by two strokes. "unlucky Leigh, great effort though" Afterwards Paul commented " i was just glad to get in the club house and get a pint down me, i was f * * * * n knackered." What an athlete!
The nearest the pin competition was won by Ian Pugh with a great approach to the 144 yard ninth hole. The longest drive was clinched by frank Reagan on the par 5 7th hole as his tee-shot just clung on to the right edge of the fairway. But for me, the shot of the day came on the par 4, 4th hole where Steve Sutton Put his approach to the green within inches of the pin and completed his first of two birdies, "well done Steve!"
The day itself was testing to say the least as the heat was almost unbearable on one of the most physically demanding courses we'll play all year.
Our next fixture will be held at Ellesmere port on sun the 24th June, tee off:11.00am. we hope to see you there.
