Sutty's off to a Flyer!!!
Walton Hall in Warrington was the venue for our second outing of the year and with the sun shining, it couldn't of been a better setting.
Now... from the word go it was never going to be a quick round... but five and a half hours was not expected to say the least! Waiting around seemed to be the order of the day and it took its toll on quite a few.
However it seems some of us prefer a more laid back approach with Birrel, Chris and Sutty taking full advantage of there time to reflect and all opened up with 18 points plus in the front nine.
It came close to being Stevie Birrels day but the eight handicapper saw his tee shot on seventeen sail out of bounds.... A costly mistake.
Although Chris pushed Sutty all the way it wouldn't be enough with steve taking victory by one stroke. This is Sutty's second win in eight days and a perfect start to the season but with two shots shaved off his handicap he will now have to prove he can step up his game at Fishwick and maintain his fantastic form. Longest Drive was claimed By Birrell whilst nearest the pin also went to Stevie Sutton with a great approach at the 4th. Results will be updated soon and can be found at the history/results page.
Having spoken to Ted... Due to the congestion and waiting around on Sunday we will be keeping away from municipals in the future and trying to get all our future fixtures on private courses were there are longer periods between Tee off times. Sorry for any inconvenience.

If you cant stand the heat........
A mini heatwave in April?.... Close your eyes and you could of been stood on the Costa Del Sol. With temperatures reaching 75 degrees conditions couldn't of been better for our opening day at heart common.
The course itself looked to still be going through a transitional period and was left looking unmanicured and tired in places.
As the day progressed the greens and fairways firmed up and proved difficult to judge for the players. However front runners Ste Sutton and Tony Southern made short work of the opening nine both scoring 18 points plus.
....... Stood on the 16th Tee the heat seemed to get the better of Tony who carded just two points in the last three holes and although Ian made a late push the door was left wide open for Ste Sutton to complete a solid round scoring 37 points in total (two clear of Ian and three of Tony).
Steve's opening win puts him top of the Championship Leader board as he looks to regain the title he won in 2009.
Longest drive was taken by Stevie Birrell with a monster on the 9th whilst the nearest the pin was unclaimed.
Full results from the day will follow on the Results page shortly.

He's off the "Mark" at last!
Fiddlers Ferry was host to our final game of the season and with a strong turn out and the last chance of a trophy, it was all to play for.
Although Martin and James got of to a bit of a false start they started to come good picking up eight pars between them on the back nine. However from the moment Mark Drummond Tee'd off on the first hole it seemed blatantly obvious there would only be one winner. For a man who 18 months ago had never even picked up a golf club. Winning any form of golf competition would of seemed out of the question. However mark has persevered and in a short period of time added consistency to a continuously improving game.
The highlight of Marks round came at the par 5 eighth hole were a great 3rd shot set up a birdie chance which was converted from around 10 feet. Although Mark didn't gain any championship points for his win... What better way to end the season than to finish top of the pile.
Mark also won Longest drive whilst James claimed nearest the pin with a nice approach.

Ian sneaks club championship!
Ian sneaked in at the last hole to nick the club championship by the narrowest of margin's. Had it not been for a lost ball by David Bristow on the last hole things could of turned out very different. Even though David still managed a respectable six on the par five 18th hole it wasn't enough as Ian made his par to take it by one stroke.
Frank Regan had been the early front runner with a fantastic front nine but uncharacteristic mistakes later in his round proved costly as he fell back into third place. New comer mark Drummond made up the final in his first season of asking. A testament to his determination and commitment having only taken up the game 18 months earlier.
